Violentum Design and Cycle Testing

Three years ago, Bullistic Barriers identified the need for bullet resistant garage doors. We continuously tested various materials and assemblies to create a viable and lightweight bullet resistant garage door. Our goal was for the ability to create these doors in a way that is easy, so as to make it possible for high production manufacturing.

So we evaluated the concept of utilizing preformed steel panels and inserting a ballistic composite panel. We had two challenges with his concept: (1) there was a lack of rigidity and structure in standard preformed garage panels. And (2), the inconsistency that one panel had to another was also an issue. These elements were enough of a problem for our ballistic panel inserts not to work consistently.

Another concept that we explored was to build a bullet resistant garage door completely from scratch, using our own custom components. This approach would allow us to create the door framing to the correct size and structure necessary to absorb ballistic attacks. So, due to the strength and rigidity that the custom doors were able to provide, this custom frame concept worked perfectly!

Once we created these doors, they went straight into cycle testing with multiple sizes and variations! And, in our rigorous testing, we passed a multitude of benchmarks. One of those notable bench marks was our Violentum III Level 3 door ended up cycling over 30,000 cycles; and it could have gone more if we let it but we needed it for Blast testing! (see LINK) This is especially impressive when the industry standard on garage doors is only 10,000 cycles!

Lightweight Benefits:

Most people would expect a Bullet Resistant Garage door to be heavy, but in reality, they are extremely light for Ballistic doors. Our Violentum III Level 3, for example, is so light that we were able to use a typical liftmaster garage door operator, and cycle it at 4000% over its standard daily duty cycle of 90 cycles a day! This is definitely a testament of how light these bullet resistant garage doors are!
